FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern softball team (23-26, 6-18 SSC) travels to West Palm Beach, Fla. to take on the Northwood Seahawks (11-31) in a doubleheader Wednesday, April 24, for their last road series of the season.
The Sharks enter Wednesday after a tough road conference series against No. 15 Tampa. The team was swept for the first time since Saint Leo on March 22-23. NSU dropped Friday night’s game, 2-0, against the Spartans then lost both games in Saturday’s doubleheader by a combined three runs against one of the nation’s best teams.
Despite the sweep, the Sharks have played their best softball to date, winning 10 of their last 15 games, with their last home loss coming a month ago.
Northwood enters the week on a bit of slump, winning just two of their last 16 games, dating back since March 26. The Seahawks are 0-5 against SSC schools this season, losing four times against Barry, getting outscored 28-1 against the Buccaneers and dropping one to Lynn, 4-1.
These teams played in a doubleheader last season at the AD Griffin Sports Complex, where the Sharks took care of business and won both against the Pelicans. NSU won game one, 9-0 then 6-3 in the latter.
The Sharks have dominated Northwood in the overall series. In the 52 games they have played against each other, NSU has won 51. The only loss against the Pelicans came in 2011, when Northwood took game two of the doubleheader, 5-4.
