Track and Field Finishes Strong At Florida Relays and Embry Riddle Spikes Classic

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.
– The Nova Southeastern track and field teams completed a strong weekend at both the Florida Relays and the Embry Riddle Spikes Classic.

At the Embry Riddle Classic, Derrick Wood (Jr., Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) was the top Shark in the triple jump event, claiming the only first-place finish of the day with a jump of 13.37 meters. His jump ties his own school record in the event. Aj Franklin (Fr., Pensacola, Fla.) took a third-place finish in the event with a leap of 12.61 meters.

In the 4x400 relay, the women's team of Monica Sapp (Fr., Miami, Fla.), Jessica Osteen (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.), Ciona Williams (Fr.,Stockton,Ca.) and Nicole Poole (Fr.,Altamonte Springs, Fla.) finished in 36th place with a time of 3:48.29.

On the men's side, the 4x400 relay team of Talyn Washington (Fr., Royal Palm Beach, Fla.), Cameron Hemenez (So., Orlando, Fla.), Patrico Morency (So., Naples, Fla.) and Uguens Decius (Fr., Miami, Fla.) came in 33rd with a time of 3:19.70

In the field events, Jessica Nyiro (Fr., Davie, Fla.) had a strong day, as she took second in the javelin with a throw of 36.02 meters. She also competed in the shot put and javelin where she finished fourth and sixth with throws of 10.31 meters and 26.14 meters, respectively.

Ben Futerman (Sr., Freehold, N.J.) took home a second-place finish in the discus with a throw of 39.02. He also placed third in the shot put with a throw of 12.47 meters.

 Darren Hendricks was also successful in the field, taking two fourth-place finishes in the discus and hammer, with throws of 37.86 meters and 35.96 meters, respectively.

Wood and Amanda Krentisky  (So., Lake Ariel, Pa.) both took fourth-place finishes in the high jump with leaps of 1.98 meters and 1.44 meters, respectively.

The Sharks will be back in action on April 13, as they head to the Miami Invitational in Coral Gables, Fla.
