Volleyball Hosts Palm Beach Atlantic For Tuesday Tilt

First serve is set for 7 p.m.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern volleyball team returns home to the NSU Arena to take on Palm Beach Atlantic on Tuesday night, with first serve at 7 p.m.

The Sharks (3-4) are coming off a weekend where they fell three times at the Eckerd College Classic. The last match, on Saturday, was back-and-forth against Bentley, with all four sets decided by five points or less. But the Falcons prevailed three sets to one.

Sydney Cook (So., Miami) led the Sharks in the three matches with 40 kills and was named to the All-Tournament team. Dana Holger (So., Lino Lakes, Minn.) was just behind her with 39, and is second on the team this season with 73 kills, trailing only Cook's 76. Both rank among the SSC's top 10, with Cook fourth and Holger sixth. Cook is also eighth in aces, at 0.43 per set.

Freshman Katie Pyles (Denver) leads NSU with 161 assists (7.3 per set, fourth in the conference), while fellow newcomer Candice Johnson (Jr., Chuluota, Fla.) is the dig leader with 64. Holger has 53.

PBA comes into the match with a sparkling 8-1 record. They won three out of four matches at the Carson Newman College Tournament in Jefferson City, Tenn. to start the season, and swept all five matches they were in at the USC-Aiken Tournament in Aiken, S.C., not losing a single set. In between, they won 3-0 over the Sharks' SSC rival Lynn.

The Sailfish are led by sophomore outside hitter Faith Rohn, whose 131 kills averages out to more than 4.5 per set. Their top setter is junior Becca Acevedo at 285, or nearly 10 a set, while fellow junior Melissa Buckingham is their leader in digs, with 147, or five a set.
