Box Score

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern volleyball team lost only their second match at home on the young season, falling to Palm Beach Atlantic in straight sets, 25-18, 25-12, 25-18.

The Sharks (3-5) played even in the early going of every set, but would fall victim to a Sailfish run. In the opener, it was 5-5 before PBA (9-1) scored six straight points. The closest NSU would get after that was four points on two occasions.

In the second frame, NSU trailed 7-5 before the Sailfish scored four straight, and eight of the next nine, going up 15-6. Later, PBA would have a string of four straight to go up by 12 and they were up double digits the rest of the way in winning by 13.

The third set saw the visitors start out up 5-1 and 6-2, before NSU cut it to 6-4. This time, it was a 5-0 PBA run to extend out their lead to 11-4. The Sharks came back midway through the set, with four straight of their own to make it 15-12. But PBA scored five of the next six and eventually won 25-18.

Dana Holger (So., Lino Lakes, Minn.) had 10 kills to pace the Sharks, while Sydney Cook (So., Miami) had nine. Cook was also in on three blocks, as was Samantha High (Sr., Naples, Fla.). Katie Pyles (Fr., Denver) had 23 of the team's 26 assists, while Candice Johnson (Jr., Chuluota, Fla.) had the top dig mark with 14.

The Sharks now have 10 days between matches, as they next open up the Sunshine State Conference schedule with back-to-back matches, starting with Eckerd at home on the Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. The following day, it's Florida Southern at the NSU Arena at 4 p.m.
