Men’s Basketball Takes Road Loss at Palm Beach Atlantic

Sharks fall out of conference to hot shooting Sailfish.

Box Score

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. The Nova Southeastern men's basketball team (4-10) lost a nonconference road game Saturday against the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish (6-10), 88-69.

Brian Cahill (Jr., Arlington, Va.) dished out a team-best six assists against the Sailfish and tied for the team-lead in points with 10. Justin Jeangerard (Jr., Weaverville, Calif.) returned after a one-game absence and came off the bench to score 10 points and collect five rebounds. Ryan Steed (So., Miami), making his NSU debut, was the third scorer in double-digits, scoring 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting all in the second half.

The Sharks did not get off to the start they wanted, falling behind early, 9-0. After a quick timeout, NSU stopped the bleeding with five quick points from Casey Carroll (So., Youngstown, Ohio). PBA would not give up its lead, shooting well enough to defend their initial run. The Sailfish shot 50 percent in the first half (16-for-32) and only committed five turnovers against NSU's press. The Sharks would trail, 37-29, at halftime.

NSU got off to a rusty start, shooting 37 percent from the floor (10-for-27) and 25 percent from 3-point range (4-for-16). Jeangerard scored seven points and collected all five of his rebounds in the opening period.

Both teams shot well to start the second half, with teams combining to shoot 7-for-7 from the floor over the first three minutes. NSU would be the first team to go cold, with a three minute scoreless stretch due to three straight turnovers and a missed 3-pointer. Berg snapped his team out of the funk on a trey with 12 minutes left, putting the Sharks at a 57-44 deficit.

The Sharks would find their shooting touch again, but PBA would only continue to score at a blistering rate. The home team took its first 20 point lead with seven minutes left and would lead by as much as 26 points with 5:33 left. PBA would finish the second half making 16-of-22 field goal attempts.

Stian Berg (Jr., Baerum, Norway) finished the game with eight points and two assists, while fellow starters Chris Page (So., Plainfield, Ind.) and Maurice Fuller (Jr., Westfield, Ind.) each scored six points. Freshmen Remi Farrell (Woodbridge, Conn.) and Cameron Denney (Norwell, Ind.) each came off the bench to score four points. Brandon Patchan (Fr., Tampa, Fla.) rounded out NSU with six points on 2-for-3 shooting.

The Sharks will return to Sunshine State Conference play on Wednesday at home against South Florida rival Barry at 7:30 p.m. on 640 Sports.
