LIVE VIDEO/STATSFORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University women's soccer team goes on the road for the final time during this 2014 season, taking on Lynn on Tuesday night in Boca Raton at 7 p.m.
The Sharks (6-6-0, 3-5-0) finished up their Sunshine State Conference slate on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Eckerd. The match prior, they topped Lynn (4-10-0, 1-7-0 SSC) at the NSU Soccer Complex, and because of an earlier weather postponement, will face the Fighting Knights for the second time in six days, this time in an out-of-conference contest.
Last Wednesday, in Fort Lauderdale, the Sharks used two goals from
Sierra Lelii (R-Jr., Seminole, Fla.) and one each from
Cydney Niedermeyer (So., Fort Myers, Fla.),
Sara Lundberg (So., Linköping, Sweden) and
Balea Schumacher (Fr., New Port Richey, Fla.) to come away with a 5-0 victory. Niedermeyer's score came 2:10 in, with Lelii's first just six minutes later, and the Sharks outshot Lynn 24-9.
Amanda Kopale (R-So., Cape Coral, Fla.) had five saves to pick up the first of what is now two straight shutouts in goal.
Lynn fell in their final three SSC matches and in seven of their final eight matches overall. During that span, they posted a 3-1 win in a home match against Florida Southern on Oct. 11, but last time out, were dropped by Saint Leo, also at home, 5-1. In their last three, including the loss to NSU, they've been outscored 18-1, and overall, have faced a 44-15 disadvantage, scoring the lowest amount of goals in the conference.
NSU is 10-3-2 in the NCAA era against Lynn, picking up a win or a draw in five of the last six. They have been unbeaten in their last two games at the McCusker Sports Complex Soccer Field: On Oct. 11, 2011, Lelii scored the game-winner in the 83rd minute to complete a come-from-behind 2-1 win for the Sharks; and on Oct. 5 of last season, a hard-fought match ended in a 1-1 tie.
Live stats and video will be available on Lynn's official site
HERE. It will be the next-to-last match of the year for the Sharks, with the finale coming this Thursday at 7 p.m. against Johnson & Wales at the NSU Soccer Complex.
