FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University volleyball program hosts Lynn (10-11, 3-7 SSC) Friday, Oct. 31. at 7 p.m. and Florida Tech (9-16, 1-9 SSC) Saturday, Nov. 1 at 4 p.m. at the NSU Arena in the Don Taft University Center.
The Sharks return to the court after falling to Eckerd (3-1) and Rollins (3-0) last weekend on the road.
Caitlin Donahue (Jr., Miami, Fla.) still ranks in the Sunshine State Conference in hitting percentage at .354, while
Sydney Cook (Miami, Fla.) makes her debut in the digs top 10, ranking ninth with 102. The duo is also tied in the sixth spot in blocks, both averaging .83 per set.
Katie Pyles (So., Denver, Colo.) moved up a spot to fourth in assists with 248.
Candice Johnson (Sr., Chuluota, Fla.) remains in the top three in digs with 138.
This will be the first weekend in which the Sharks host back-to-back weekend matches since the beginning of the season on September 19.
Lynn Fighting KnightsRecently, the Fighting Knights fell to the Saint Leo Lions, 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-23). Marissa Tandron posted her third straight double-double with 33 assists and 14 digs, adding three total blocks to the numbers. Tandron is third in the SSC in assists with 343, while Nikki Haben is fifth in digs with 149.
The Fighting Knights beat the Sharks earlier in the season on their campus, 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 25-15, 25-23). NSU was led by Cook, who tallied a team-high 15 kills, and Pyles who came up one dig short of a triple-double with 10 kills, 19 assists and nine digs.
Natalie Melcher (Fr., Rishton Letzion, Israel) had six kills to her name, while Donahue tallied five kills to earn herself a .556 hitting percentage.
Florida Tech PanthersThe Florida Tech Panthers return to the court after losing to the No. 19 Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish in three sets (25-22, 25-13, 25-19). Kim Juriga led the Panthers with 10 of the team's 33 kills. Milli Tapuskovic had eight and Alea Hamm notched six. Ashtin Truesdale led FIT in assists with 27 and is currently sixth in the SSC in assists with 230.
NSU swept the Panthers in the team's last competition on the road (25-20, 25-23, 25-15). Holger led the way with a team-high 12 kills, followed by Melcher with nine. Cook collected seven kills and a team-best 13 digs. Donahue joined with two kills of her own, while
Devyn Main (Fr., Port Charlotte, Fla.) contributed with one kill. The offense ran through the consistent play of Pyles, who tallied 26 assists while also playing a key role defensively with 11 digs.
