FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southern University (12-14, 5-9 SSC) volleyball team will host the Barry Buccaneers (17-10, 7-7 SSC) in the final home game of the 2014 regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. and celebrate Military Appreciation Night. Free admission will be given to all active and veteran military and their family.
The Sharks return to the court after a great 3-1 (31-29, 25-17, 21-25, 25-16) win against the Saint Leo Lions on Nov. 8th. The 3-1 match win marks the first time the Sharks have beaten Saint Leo in exactly six years. The last time the Sharks defeated the Lions was on Nov. 8, 2008.
Dana Holger (Jr., Lino Lakes, Minn.) led the team with a double-double on a stellar 18 kills, a .320 hitting percentage and 10 digs.
Sydney Cook (Jr., Miami, Fla.) also held a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs.
Katie Pyles (So., Denver, Colo.) held a team-high 42 assists, while
Candice Johnson (Sr., Chuluota, Fla.) notched a match-high 21 assists.
The Sharks are ranked across the board in the SSC statistical standings.
Caitlin Donahue (Jr., Miami, Fla.) is sixth in hitting percentage at .346, while Cook remains in the top 10 of kills with 145 (avg 3.02 per set). Pyles is fifth in assists with 354 (avg. 7.38) and Johnson is third in digs with 202 (avg. 4.49 per set).
Barry UniversityMost recently, the Barry Buccaneers fell to No. 16 Florida Southern on Saturday, Nov. 8. Kate Stromberg led the pack with 11 kills, followed by Kayshia Brady who notched eight. Ali Skayhan finished with a team-high 27 assists while Jenny Trinidad led in digs with 10.
Barry is currently third in SSC hitting percentage and second in service aces. Tasha Begon is third in the SSC in kills with 131 (avg 3.12 per set) and Trinidad ranks fourth in service aces 45 (avg .36 per set).
The Sharks and Buccaneers faced each other earlier in the season, with Barry taking a 3-1 match win. Cook posted a double-double on the night with 11 kills and 17 digs, followed by
Natalie Melcher (Fr., Rishon Letzion, Isreal), who had eight kills with five digs. Pyles led the team in assists with 24, while Johnson notched a team-high 21 digs.
