Sharks Baseball Completes Sweep Over Philadelphia, Wins 12-1

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern baseball team (10-1) finalizes their series against the Philadelphia Rams (1-5) Sunday,with a 12-1 win at the NSU Baseball Complex.

The Sharks pitching staff got the job done again today, behind a strong pitching performance from Julian Loret de Mola (Jr. Miami). De Mola pitched seven innings, allowing just one unearned run in the first, while striking out four on the way to his second win of the season.



Casey Kopec (So., Coral Springs, Fla.) and Matt Hardy (Fr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) finished off the game, each with a shutout inning.

Mario Urdaneta (Jr., Ocala, Fla.) and Brooks Fleming (Sr., Palm City, Fla.) each had four-RBI games, with Urdaneta going 2-for-3 and Fleming hitting a three-run bomb in the eighth for the final runs of the game.

The Sharks saw themselves behind early, after the Rams spotted themselves a run in the first. However, the Sharks answered back, with one-run in the second and two more in the third to put themselves in the lead for good.

After no runs in the fourth, fifth, or sixth innings, the Sharks exploded offensively scoring five runs in the seventh and the final four in the eighth to seal the deal for their second highest scoring total of the year.

Senior Geoff Jimenez (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) had a 1-for-3 performance at the plate, scoring twice and was hit by a pitch, bringing his hit-by-pitch total to five on the season. Catcher Yandy Viera (Jr., Hialeah, Fla.) had an RBI on a 1-for-4 performance. Viera is now second on the team with eight RBI.

Angel Navarro (Jr., Miami Lakes, Fla.) tallied an RBI in the fourth, batting an even .500, going 2-for-4 on the day. Alvin Swoope (Fr., Port St. Lucie, Fla.) had a couple of stolen bases and scored twice, while hitting 1-for-4 in the win.

Kavan Thompson (So., Melbourne, Fla.) and Julian Pino (Fr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) each went 1-for-1 coming in as pinch hitters. Pino recorded his first collegiate hit, while Thompson's single up the middle brought home Pino later in the eighth.



Alexander Fernandez (Jr., Davie, Fla.) had another strong day at first base. Fernandez went 1-for -3, scoring twice, and stole two bases, bringing his stolen base total to three on the season.

Andrew Liberty (Fr., Boca Raton, Fla.) had a 1-for-3 day at the plate, recording the teams only double of the game. Casey Gibson (So., Fort Myers, Fla.) scored on Urdaneta's single in the seventh, after being walked earlier in the inning.

The Sharks will now take a road trip up to South Carolina, as they begin their trip with a game against Anderson at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20th.
