FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 9 Nova Southeastern baseball team (10-1) will play their first road games of the season in South Carolina. The team will start with a single game against Anderson College in Anderson, S.C. Thursday, Feb. 20 at 3 p.m., then a three-game series against Benedict College in Columbia, S.C., starting with a single game Friday at 2 p.m., then concluding the weekend with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12 p.m.
This will be the first time in program history that the Sharks will face either team.
NSU is coming off a three-game sweep against the Philadelphia Rams last weekend. The Sharks outscored the Rams, 20-2, in the three games, winning 3-0, 5-1 and 12-1.
In the sweep,
Mario Urdaneta (Jr., Ocala, Fla.) went 4-for-8, with six RBI to lead the way for the Sharks.
Roberto Baroniel (Jr., Miami) had a seven inning complete-game, four-hit shutout, as part of a 3-0 win.
The Anderson Trojans (3-8) are coming into Thursday's game against NSU winning three of their last five, with their last win coming in an 8-2 win over Carson-Newman. The Trojans took two of three against Carson-Newman.
Anderson has been led offensively by Nathan Galliford, batting .314 in 11 games, tallying a team-high three home runs and 11 RBI. Kyle Bailey has also had a strong start to the season, hitting .310 with five RBI and scoring 11 times.
The Benedict Tigers (0-4) enter the weekend looking for their first win of the year. The Tigers lost twice to Bluefield, 7-3 and 6-3, and dropped a couple to USC Beaufort, 8-5 and 4-2.
Mitchell Dixon has been the most consistent bat for the Tigers in the early season, going 6-for-10 at the plate. Elisha McDaniel currently leads Benedict in RBI with four to go along with a .308 batting average.
Pitching hasn't been there for the Tigers early in the season. The staff has a combined 6.19 ERA.
