Sharks Baseball Prepares for Five-Game Weekend Against Albany State/Pfeiffer

The Sharks will look to continue their perfect start this weekend.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern baseball team (3-0) is ready for its busiest weekend of the season as they take on Albany State in a three-game series starting Friday at 6 p.m. and a doubleheader Saturday, beginning at 12 p.m. They will then take on the Pfeiffer Falcons (3-0) in a doubleheader, with the first pitch set for 1 p.m. on Sunday, at the NSU Baseball Complex.

The Sharks will look to continue its hot start to the season, after going 3-0 last weekend against the best the South Atlantic Conference has to offer, in Tusculum and Catawba. The Sharks swept Tusculum, winning 2-1 and 3-2, behind stellar pitching and timely hitting. Catawba proved to be a tough test for NSU, however, the Sharks came out on top over the Indians, 5-3. The Sharks trailed just one time opening weekend.

NSU's Alvin Swoope (Fr., Port St. Lucie, Fla.) and Brooks Fleming (Sr., Palm City, Fla.) led the Sharks offensively, each batting over .500, along with a 1.000 slugging percentage. Swoope finished the weekend, going 6-for-10 with three RBI, while Fleming went 4-for-7, with four RBI including a three-run home run in the first inning against Catawba.

Roberto Baroniel (Jr., Miami) had a huge game on the mound on opening day, pitching eight innings, allowing just one run on two hits, in a 2-1 win over Tusculum.

Entering their first three-game series of the season, the Sharks take on an Albany State team against whom they've had great success with in the past, going 9-0 against the Golden Rams. In their brief history with ASU, the Sharks have outscored the Rams 96-19.

Albany State swept its season-opening doubleheader against Miles College, winning 10-9, and then 14-2 in the nightcap.  The Golden Rams' Robert Latner had a big game for ASU in their 14-2 blowout, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, four of which came off a grand slam.

On Sunday the Sharks will take on the Pfeiffer Falcons, who enter the weekend with the same record as NSU. This will be the first time in program history that these teams will take the diamond together.

Pfeiffer beat Mars Hill, 9-4, on opening day, topped Limestone the next day, 10-9, then concluded its weekend against Francis Marion with a 4-3 win. The Falcons' Kevin Price had a big weekend offensively going 5-for-9 with five RBI and four runs. John Gray also had a five-RBI weekend for the Falcons, going 5-for-15, with a couple of triples
