Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University softball team (2-4) went 1-1 in their first day of competition in the Eckerd College Tournament. The Sharks fell to the Colorado Christian Cougars, 7-4, after holding a lead at 4-1, but bounced back and played at a high level for the 2-1 win over the West Florida Argonauts.

Game 1

The Sharks took on the Colorado Christian Cougars at 11:30 a.m. for the first game in the Eckerd College Tournament. In the bottom of the first, Samira Tanaka (Sr., Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Lorena Spaulding (Jr., Pembroke Pines) would work together and get the Sharks' first runs of the game. Tanaka would double first with Spaulding following in the lineup. Spaulding would go for the single and end up on second from a Cougars throw, giving Tanaka the time to get the Sharks' first run. Spaulding would then score on a fielding error, giving the Sharks a 2-0 lead.

Colorado Christian would battle back, getting its first run of the game in the bottom of the second as Jennie Von Doellen (Sr., Hudson Bay, Canada) walked two back-to-back, placing a player on third who would later steal home from a Sharks fielding error.

In the third, the Sharks fought and pushed their lead to 4-2, as Lorena earned her second hit in the game with a double. With back-to-back RBI doubles from Erika Garcia (Sr., Pembroke Pines) and Katrina Ammons (Jr., Jacksonville, Fla.), Lorena would score again off of Garcia's bat, giving Erika her first RBI of the game, and the Sharks  repeated right after as Ammons would single to the right field to bring Garcia home.

Colarado Christian would go the distance for the rest of the game as their pitcher, Mariah Bledsoe, would only allow 2 more Sharks hits, finalizing the score at 7-4

Game 2

The Sharks bounced back from game one and competed against the West Florida Argonauts to take a 2-1 win.

Just four batters into the game and with Tanaka at second, Garcia would come to the plate next and hit her second homerun of the 2014 season, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead.

The Argonauts would score at the bottom of the first, closing the lead to 2-1, but the Sharks' pitcher, freshman Rebecca Thornton (Lodi, Cali), held them for the rest of the game. Thornton pitched for all seven innings, only allowing five hits and striking out five batters in three innings.

NSU will start at 11 a.m. tomorrow with a game against the No. 5 Armstrong Atlantic Pirates and will then face Flagler for the third time this season at 4 p.m.
