Sharks' Softball Falls to No. 6 Valdosta State 2-0 in Final Game in Clearwater

NSU goes 3-2 in Eckerd Invitational

Box Score

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern softball team fell to No. 6 Valdosta State Blazers in their last game of the Eckerd Tournament on Sunday morning.

The only scoring of the game took place in the top of the second. Hannah Strickland's sacrifice bunt advanced two teammates to second and third base, and Morgan Butler would come next to bat and get the RBI double to bring both runs in.

The Sharks did not get on the scoreboard for the entire game but both sides of the team came together to prevent a bigger gap in the score. NSU was limited to two hits in the game, the first a bunt single by Lorena Spaulding (Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) in the first inning and the second a single by Gina Bondarenko (Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) in the fourth.

Erika Garcia (Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) pitched all seven innings for NSU, allowing only five Valdosta hits.

The completion of the game ended the Sharks' play at the Eckerd Tournament. NSU went 3-2 in the tournament, including a three-game winning streak in the middle of play, defeating West Florida 3-1, upsetting No. 5 Armstrong Atlantic 5-3, and Flagler 5-4.

NSU returns to the field this Friday, Feb. 14, to play a doubleheader against Albany State in Albany, Ga., beginning at 1 p.m.
