The Sharks well-balanced game proved to be too much for the visiting Yellow Jackets.

Box Score

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 17 Nova Southeastern baseball team (16-4, 3-3 SSC) out played the American International Yellow Jackets (3-2), topping AIC, 9-0, Monday night at the NSU Baseball Complex.

The pitching staff came up huge again for the Sharks, combining for 13 strikeouts, while allowing just one walk and three hits, between seven different NSU pitchers. None of the AIC's hits were for extra bases.

The bats also came to life for the Sharks, Monday night. The lineup went a combined 13-for-36, totaled four doubles, hit two home runs and struck out just three times.

Mitchell Buerosse (Sr., Lighthouse Point, Fla.) (2-0) made his first appearance since Feb. 8, against Catawba. Against the AIC, Buerosse pitched three innings, while allowing just three hits and striking out six Yellow Jacket batters. The six pitchers in relief didn't allow a hit against them the rest of the game.

Andrew Liberty (Fr., Boca Raton, Fla.) had a strong day back on the field. As the team's designated hitter, Liberty went 3-for-5, batted in a run and scored twice.

The Sharks started to run away with the game early, scoring three times in the second and another in the third. NSU really put things out of reach, with another four runs in the fifth before capping it off in the sixth, scoring their ninth run of the ballgame.

Kavan Thompson (So., Melbourne, Fla.) had a big day at the dish, going 2-for-4, both of which were doubles, with two RBI. Michael Hernandez (Fr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) had a similar stat line, as he also went 2-for-4, on a couple of singles, batting in two runners and scoring a run of his own.

Andres Visbal (Fr., Miami) and Brooks Fleming (Sr., Palm City, Fla.) were responsible for the team's two home runs, each of which were solo shots. Fleming's jack came in the fifth, which was crushed over the left field fence. Visbal's homer was crushed in the other direction in the sixth inning, nearly finding its way onto the Dolphins practice field out in right.

Alvin Swoope (Fr., Port St. Lucie, Fla.) had a 1-for-5 day at the plate, while continuing to make the spectacular plays over at shortstop. Alexander Fernandez (Jr., Davie, Fla.) swung that bat well Monday, going 1-for-2, with a double and three runs. Fernandez also picked up his seventh stolen base of the season.

Mario Urdaneta (Jr., Ocala, Fla.) made his third appearance of the season out in left field Monday night. Urdaneta went 1-for-4, with a double and a run scored. Geoff Jimenez (Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) record his fifth RBI of the year, coming off a sacrifice fly for the third run of the game.

The losing pitcher, Brian Karp, allowed seven runs, five earned, on eight hits in 4.1 innings of work for the visitors from Springfield, Mass.

The Sharks will return to conference play, with a huge Sunshine State Conference showdown in Miami Gardens, Fla., against the Barry Buccaneers, for a three-game series beginning Friday.
