Softball Return Home To Host St. Thomas in Doubleheader

Sharks return home after a 15 game road trip.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla
. - The Nova Southeastern softball team (12-14) will host the St. Thomas Bobcats (14-10) in a doubleheader series this Saturday, March 22nd.

The Sharks will return home after a 15 game road trip series. In NSU's last set of home games, they swept Kentucky State, 11-0 and 8-2.

NSU returns to play after going 1-2 against Saint Leo last weekend. The games dropped the Sharks to 2-4 in conference and 12-14 overall. Despite the losses, Erika Garcia (Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) had a stellar performance and went 4-for-7, notching three of the team's four RBI. She also pitched in the Sharks' one win of the weekend, allowing six hits, two runs and striking out two in seven innings of work.

In the Sharks' one win of the three-game series, Garcia went 2-for-3, notching two RBI. Gina Bondarenko (Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) grounded out to second base to bring in the last run, helping NSU take the 3-2 win.

St. Thomas recently swept Indiana Institute of Technology in a doubleheader series. They held the team to just eight hits and three runs on the day. Notably, Christina Sacramento pitched for five innings in the first game, allowing only three hits and striking out six.

In the all-time series, the Sharks lead the St. Thomas Bobcats, 71-7. Their last competition with the Sharks came in 2013 in NSU's season-closing doubleheader in which NSU won both games, 4-2.

In game one of the doubleheader, Lorena Spaulding (Jr., Pembroke Pines) went 1-for-3, scoring one run and notching an RBI. Garcia pitched all seven innings of the game, allowing seven hits and two runs. In the second game, Spaulding went 2-for-4 and scored one run while Garcia notched an RBI on her only hit in the game. Jennie Von Doellen (Sr., Hudson Bay, Canada) allowed two runs in six innings of work.
