FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Nova Southeastern Sharks (14-14, 2-4 SSC) will go back into Sunshine State Conference play and face the Barry Buccaneers (19-10, 8-4 SSC) at home Tuesday, March 24 at 6 p.m.
NSU returned to .500 on the season after a sweep of St. Thomas Saturday, March 22. The Sharks held the Bobcats to seven combined hits overall, winning 6-2 and 1-0. In the first game, the Sharks scored four runs in six hits in the bottom of the fourth to win,6-2. Erika Garcia (Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) went the distance for the Sharks in game two, throwing 63 pitches against the minimum amount of Bobcat batters, 21.
Barry recently split a doubleheader at Rollins, falling 4-1 in the first game and taking the 6-5 win in extra innings for the second game. The second-game win broke Rollins' 20-game home winning streak.
Barry is fourth in conference standings, holding the fourth highest batting average and ranks fifth in team pitching. Freshman Hunter Mars is ranked third in conference in individual batting at .398, with Megan Copeland second in runs scored at 28. Kayla Ogle leads the conference in stolen bases with 35.
Last time the teams met was in a doubleheader on March 16, in which the Sharks fell to Barry both games, 5-1 and 3-1. Melanie Spicola (Jr., Umatilla, Fla.) and Garcia both led the Sharks in batting average on the day, hitting .400 apiece.
