FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 4 Nova Southeastern University baseball team (15-4, 3-3 SSC) is set to take on the American International Yellow Jackets (3-1), Monday, March 10 at the NSU Baseball Complex. The out-of-conference matchup will begin at 6 p.m.
The Sharks are looking to bounce back after dropping two of three against Eckerd in the weekend series against their Sunshine State Conference foe.
NSU dropped the Friday night game against the Tritons, 3-2.
Roberto Baroniel (Jr., Miami) had a strong performance on the mound, going seven innings, striking out eight batters and allowing three runs on just five hits. All three runs came in the third. Outside of that inning, Baroniel gave up just one hit to the visiting Tritons.
The teams split Saturday's doubleheader. The Sharks took game one 3-1, then dropped the latter 3-1. Julian Loret de Mola (Jr., Miami) earned the win in the early game, allowing just one earned in seven innings of work.
American International, from Springfield, Mass., is in the middle of their Spring Break trip, winning three of their first four games of the season. AIC will play seven days in a row during this road trip. The Yellow Jackets won both games of the doubleheader against Nyack College in Lantana, Fla. this past Saturday, before splitting a doubleheader against Mercy College on Sunday in Fort Pierce, Fla.
The Yellow Jackets are coming off a 21-19, 2013 season. Dave Clark returns for his senior campaign, after leading the team last year in batting average (.345), hits (51) and RBI (27). Dan Asselin also returns for his final season. Asselin is a two-way player for the Yellow Jackets, who led the team in slugging percentage (.507) and home runs (4) last year.
