Samira Tanaka hits first triple in NSU career.

Box Score

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern softball team (24-16, 11-5 SSC) fell to No. 2 Tampa (28-4,16-3 SSC), 5-0, on Friday, March 11 at the A.D. Griffin Sports Complex.

The Sharks were held to two hits in the game, as Samira Tanaka (Sr., Sao Paulo, Brazil) hit her first career NSU triple against UT starting pitcher Kayla Cox.

The Spartans gained the early lead in the top of the first inning. Back-to-back fielder's choices put Meagan Burke and Kandi Kuder in scoring position. Bre Setree notched two RBI on a double to left-center to put the Spartans up 2-0.

Tampa extended their lead to four in the fop of the fourth. A Sharks' infield error allowed Burke to reach first. Setree hit a single up the middle to put two runners on base. Lindsay Dring brought both runners home on a double to left field for the 4-0 lead.

The Sharks' two hits came in the fourth and fifth inning. Tanaka tripled to left-center with one out in the bottom of the fourth, but she would be stranded on third. NSU notched their second hit in the fifth as Dakota Villella (Fr., Hollywood, Fla.) reached on a bunt single, also with one out, but she too would be left on.

Cox held the Sharks to two hits, throwing all seven innings, walking only one batter and striking out eight. Erika Garcia (Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) went the distance for the Sharks and allowed just five hits after the first inning, striking out two in the game.

Nova Southeastern will host No. 2 Tampa again on Saturday, April 12, in a doubleheader with the first pitch at 1 p.m.
