Box Score

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern baseball team (25-16) picked up a much needed win over the visiting St. Thomas Bobcats, 13-3, Tuesday night at the NSU Baseball Complex.

With the win, the Sharks snap a nine-game losing streak that they brought into Tuesday's contest.

Alexander Fernandez (Jr., Davie, Fla.) led the way for NSU offensively in the win, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and just a single short of the cycle. Fernandez's triple in the third was the first in his NSU career, while the two-run blast doubled his season total to two on the season.

Mitchel Buerosse (Sr., Lighthouse Point, Fla.) (5-0) picked up the win for the Sharks Tuesday night. Buerosse allowed just three earned on seven hits in five and two-thirds innings of work. The senior had a lead every time he stepped on the mound for NSU in the win.

The Sharks jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning, on an Andres Visbal (Fr., Miami, Fla.) two-run double to center field. NSU kept did not slow down, scoring three more runs in the second, and four more in the fourth to open up a quick 9-0 lead.

All of the Bobcats' runs came in the sixth frame, on three solo home runs, to cut the lead to six. The Sharks then pulled away yet again, with one-run innings coming in the sixth and seventh, before closing it out with two more in the eighth, putting a stamp on the series finale between the two sides.

Fernandez was joined in the four RBI club by Visbal, Tuesday evening. Visbal had a strong outing at the plate, going 2-for-3, with two runs to his name. Geoff Jimenez (Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla) (1-for-4), Alvin Swoope (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) (2-for-3), Mario Urdaneta (2-for-3) and Michael Hernandez (Fr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) (1-for-4), each tallied a RBI in the Sharks win.

Kavan Thompson (So., Melbourne, Fla.) and Brooks Fleming (Sr., Palm City, Fla.) also got it done at the dish for the Sharks. Thompson went 2-for-5 and scored a run, while Fleming hit 1-for-3, with a run scored.

The Sharks bullpen was strong in NSU's win, as Andrew Packard (Sr., Knoxville, Tenn.), Casey Kopec (So., Coral Springs, Fla.) and Matt Hardy (Fr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) didn't allow a run on a combined three hits and six strikeouts.

The losing pitcher for the Bobcats was their starter, Philip Colominas (0-1), who allowed five earned on five hits in two innings of work. None of the seven St. Thomas pitchers who were used Tuesday night were able to go more than two innings on the bump.

The Sharks were able to avenge their loss earlier in the season against the Bobcats, when they dropped a heart breaking 8-7 contest in 11 innings in Miami Gardens, Fla.

The Sharks will have some time off before they host Palm Beach Atlantic Sunday afternoon in a doubleheader at the NSU Baseball Complex. The first pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
