The Sharks Take 4-1 Win Over Palm Beach Atlantic

The Sharks now hold a 3-1 series lead over the Sailfish heading into Tuesday’s game.

Box Score

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern baseball team (26-16) won the fourth game of the five-game series against the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish, 4-1, Sunday night at the NSU Baseball Complex. The Sharks now lead the season series 3-1 heading into Tuesday's series finale.

Dillon Frye (Jr., Raleigh, Fla.) picked up the win in his second quality start of the year. Frye (3-4) pitched six strong innings for NSU, allowing just one earned on six hits, while striking out four Sailfish batters. Alexander Kline (So., Coral Springs, Fla.) and Ronald Patella (So., Davie, Fla.) held PBA hitless in the final three innings of the game. Patella (6) picked up the save, striking out two batters in his two innings of work.

The senior Geoff Jimenez (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) finished with a team-high two hits in a 2-for-3 performance Sunday night. He also stole his 27th bag of the season in the Sharks three-run win.

NSU jumped on top of the Sailfish early in Sunday's game, scoring a quick run in the first frame. Alvin Swoope (Fr., Port St. Lucie, Fla.) did the honors, scoring Jimenez on a sacrifice fly to right. Jimenez, earlier in the inning, reached third on a double, then advancing to third on a fielding error by the right fielder.

Frye was able to pick up more run support in the second, after Alexander Fernandez (Jr., Davie, Fla.) crushed one over the left field fence for his third home run on the year.

The visitors lone run of the contest came in the fifth, on a Frye wild pitch, scoring the runner at third.

The Sharks picked up another run in the fifth, when the bases were loaded for Mario Urdaneta (Jr., Ocala, Fla.). Urdaneta was robbed of a base hit and possibly more RBI, after shortstop Ryan Gerber made a diving stop up the middle. Gerber then flung the ball to second to get the middle runner, who then threw out Urdaneta at first. While all of this was going on, Andrew Liberty (Fr., Boca Raton, Fla.) scored easily from third.

The Sharks were able to put the game out of reach in the seventh, after Brooks Fleming (Sr., Palm City, Fla.) hit a ball to the warning track, where Andres Vasquez was able to collect it. However, Jimenez tagged up and scored from third on the well hit ball.

The losing pitcher Alex Greener (0-8) had a pretty good outing for PBA, allowing two earned on five hits, in four and two-thirds innings on the bump. The Sailfish bullpen also held their opponent hitless in the final 3.1 innings pitched, to close out the game.

The final meeting between the teams will take place Tuesday evening at the NSU Baseball Complex, beginning at 6 p.m.
