Sharks Baseball Wins Third Straight After 10-3 Win Over Palm Beach Atlantic

The Sharks have now won three straight with three games to play in 2014.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern baseball team (27-16) toppled the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish, 10-3, Tuesday night at the NSU Baseball Complex, en route to their third win in a row. The Sharks took the season series, 4-1.
 
NSU finished with a season-high three home runs in the series finale against PBA, coming off the bats of Fernandez (Jr., Davie, Fla.), Ryan Woodrey (Jr., Lighthouse Point, Fla.) and  Casey Gibson (So., Fort Myers, Fla.).
 
Tuesday's game was a pitcher's duel through the first three innings, as NSU's Mitchel Buerosse (Sr., Lighthouse Point, Fla.) and PBA's Eric Russell allowed a combined four hits through the first three frames.
 
The Sharks broke through and didn't look back, after scoring three runs in the fourth and fifth innings, two in the sixth, and one more in both the seventh and eighth frames.
 
Brooks Fleming (Sr., Palm City, Fla.) finished with a team high in hits for the Sharks, going 3-for-4, with two RBI and two runs on the evening. Woodrey finished with a game-high four RBI in his 2-for-5 performance at the plate. Woodrey also put his name in the home run column for the first time this season, with a two-run blast coming in the fifth.


 
Gibson also had a two RBI performance, going 2-for-4 and tacking on his second home run of the season. Gibson's home run brought in two in the sixth, to open up an 8-0 Sharks lead.



Fernandez continued his hot-hitting streak, taking one yard on a solo shot to score the team's first run of the game. Fernandez now has three home runs in as many games, four on the year, and three coming against PBA alone.
 
Michael Hernandez (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) tallied his 14th RBI of his freshman campaign. Hernandez scored Woodrey on a sac fly for the third run of the game, which came in the fourth inning.
 
Andrew Liberty (Fr., Boca Raton, Fla.) had a strong outing in the number two spot in the lineup for the Sharks. Liberty picked up two hits for the team, and was defensively sound all game in left field.
 
Geoff Jimenez (Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) added another stolen base to his incredible season around the bags, putting him at an even 30, with three games left to play.
 
The Sailfish mustered in their runs in the late innings of the game, notching two in the eighth and one more in the ninth.
 
Buerosse picked up his sixth win and remains perfect on the season as the senior went five and two thirds innings on the mound, without allowing a run on six PBA hits.  
 
Russell (0-2) picks up the loss, as he went 3.2 innings, allowing three runs, one earned, on five hits.
 
The Sharks with conclude their 2014 regular season campaign with a three-game series at the NSU Baseball Complex, against the Rollins Tars. The series begins Friday night at 6 p.m. and senior day will be celebrated between the games one and two of the doubleheader on Saturday. Seniors Drew Packard (Sr., Knoxville, Tenn.), Buerosse, Jimenez and Fleming will all be honored Saturday.
