LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 13 Nova Southeastern baseball team (24-10, 8-7 SSC) lost just their second series of the season after Moccasins of Florida Southern (25-11, 8-4 SSC) won both games in Saturday's doubleheader to earn the sweep. The Mocs took the first game, 8-1, before FSC narrowly took the final game of the series, 1-0, in seven innings.

Brooks Fleming (Sr., Palm City, Fla.) recorded the team's lone RBI in a 2-for-6 performance at the plate Saturday afternoon. Geoff Jimenez (Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) was spectacular on defensive side of the ball, recording 10 putouts in the two games, including a couple of run-saving diving grabs out in centerfield. He also stole two bases, one in each game, bringing his total to 24 on the year.

Game two was close from the first pitch to the final out, as both starting pitchers had great performances on the mound. Dillon Frye (Jr., Raleigh, N.C.) absorbed his third loss of the season, after pitching a strong five innings, allowing just one run on five hits.

Ronald Patella (So., Davie, Fla.) also had a strong inning of relief, allowing just one hit in the four batters he faced in the sixth inning.

The Sharks bats were quiet in the final game of the series, as NSU was held to just four hits in their 1-0 loss to the Mocs. Fleming was responsible for two of the teams hits, while Kavan Thompson (So. Melbourne, Fla.) and Yandy Viera (Jr., Hialeah, Fla.) recorded the other two.

The Sharks best opportunities came in the second and third frames, when they put a runner on third, with two away in each of the two innings. Ben Richardson (W, 6-3) would not allow the Sharks to get any closer, stranding the runner on both occasions. Richardson finished with the complete game shutout, while striking out four batters.

Game one had a promising start for NSU, after Fleming scored Jimenez from third on a sac fly to right in the first inning. The Sharks lead was short lived after FSC took the lead for good, when they scored three runs in the home half of the first.

After the Mocs brought across a run in both the second and third, FSC scored two more in the sixth before finishing out the scoring, with their eighth run coming in the eighth.

Julian Loret de Mola (Jr., Miami) picked up his second loss of the season, going 2.2 innings, allowing four earned on eight hits.

Brian Johnson (4-3) picked up the win, giving up just one run on four hits in seven innings on the bump.

The Sharks will take a few days off before traveling to Palm Beach Atlantic April 8th, for midweek action against the Sailfish.
