FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern baseball team (27-16, 8-13 SSC) will conclude their 2014 regular season schedule with a three-game series against Rollins College (16-26, 2-19 SSC) at the NSU Baseball Complex. The series will begin at 6 p.m. Friday evening and will conclude with a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at 1 p.m. In between games on Saturday,
Drew Packard (Knoxville, Tenn.),
Brooks Fleming (Palm City, Fla.),
Geoff Jimenez (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and
Mitchel Buerosse (Lighthouse Point, Fla.) will all be celebrated for senior day.
If the Sharks are able to sweep the Tars this weekend, they would win 30 games in a season for the 10th consecutive season.
The Sharks have been back to their winning ways, taking their last three contests against non-conference opponents. Most recently, NSU took the final two games of their season series against Palm Beach Atlantic, winning 4-1 and 10-3. During their streak,
Mitchel Buerosse (Jr., Davie, Fla.) has gone yard in each of the three games, while totaling six RBI.
In the Sharks 13-3 win over the St. Thomas Bobcats last week, Buerosse (6-0) continued his stellar season, adding another win to his 2014 resume. He is currently sitting with a 2.63 ERA, the lowest of any starter in the Sharks rotation.
The Tars have had their share of struggles in conference play, beating just two SSC opponents in their 2014 campaign. Rollins first conference win came against the Barry Buccaneers on the road, beating the Bucs 9-3 in the first game of a three game series. The Tars also took one of three against the No. 19 Florida Southern Mocs, snapping their 11-game losing skid.
Rollins comes into their series with NSU winning three of their last four contests, including a 7-2 win over Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday.
The Tars have just one player in their starting lineup who is batting over .300 on the season. Matt Hendricks (.303) leads the team in that category, as well as RBI (20), slugging percentage (.422) and is tied for the team lead in home runs (1). Hendricks hit the walk off RBI against the Mocs in their upset win. Hendricks has also posted the lowest ERA on the team (3.88), with a minimum of at least five starts for the Tars this season.
In their storied rivalry, the Sharks have gotten the better of the Tars, winning 25 of the 44 contests between the two sides. Last season, NSU took two of three from Rollins at the NSU Baseball Complex.
