Box Score FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women's soccer easily handled Florida Memorial on Tuesday night at the NSU Soccer Complex, scoring four goals in each half for an 8-0 win.
The Sharks (3-1-0) were led by three goal scorers tallying two each: freshman
Enfiniti Stephens (Burleson, Texas) and junior transfer
Julia Nytorp (Örnsköldsvik, Sweden) each notching the first goals of their Shark career, and
Sierra Lelii (R-Jr., Seminole, Fla.) getting back-to-back goals late in the second half.
The match was scoreless for the first few minutes. After getting a few good looks at the FMU goal,
Sarah Keville (Jr., Vero Beach, Fla.) finally got the Sharks on the board in the 11th minute, scoring her third of the season on a pass from the right side by Lelii.
NSU struck again quickly, in the 16th minute, on Nytorp's first goal. She broke away and beat FMU keeper Bethany Ivens one-on-one, into the bottom right corner for a 2-0 lead.
The Sharks scored goals No. 3 and No. 4 in even quicker succession. Lelii notched her second assist on a nice cross to the left side of the box, allowing Stephens to boot her first collegiate goal into the left corner in the 35th minute. Exactly 70 seconds later,
Kelsey McCusker (Sr., Stone Harbor, N.J.) attempted a pass into the box that deflected off of Ivens, allowing the Sharks' senior to tally her first goal of the season.
In the first half, the Sharks outshot the Lions, 16-1, with five on goal. Those were especially efficient, as four hit the back of the net.
After the break, the match was played mostly between the boxes for the first 25 minutes. The Sharks only attempted three shots, and the defense and freshman goalkeeper
Jordan Lentz (Fort Myers, Fla.) held the Lions without a single attempt. Stephens broke through with her second goal in the 70th minute, and NSU seemingly went on the offense from then on out.
In those last 20 minutes, the Sharks took 10 shots and scored on three of them: Lelii knocked in two, one in the 81st minute and another in the 86th, and Nytorp came through with her second to end the attack in the 88th.
Stephanie Moench (Jr., Austin, Texas), Keville and
Balea Schumacher (Fr., New Port Richey, Fla.) came through with the respective assists on each of those three scores.
All told, the shot differential was 30-2, with starting keeper
Amanda Kopale (R-So., Cape Coral, Fla.) making the only Sharks' save, in the 14th minute.
After the break, 12 of the Sharks' 14 shots were on target, and Lentz would only end up facing one Lions attempt in the second 45, wide in the 87th minute. A total of 23 Sharks played in the match, all of them totalling at least 19 minutes on the pitch.
NSU will next go out on the road to start their Sunshine State Conference schedule, taking on Saint Leo on Saturday, with kickoff at 4:30 p.m. The Lions are 3-2 so far to start the year, with a road match at Eckerd tomorrow night prior to hosting the Sharks.
