Box Score SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University women's soccer team (2-0-0) sealed a winning weekend Sunday, taking a 2-0 win on the road against the Flagler Saints (0-2-0) to end the Flagler Kickoff Classic.
The Sharks immediately made their presence known Sunday, with
Sierra Lelii (Jr., Seminole, Fla.) making a heads up play to put the Sharks ahead within the first 30 seconds of the match. The striker picked the pocket of Flagler goalkeeper Desiree Shields and shot the ball into the left side of the goal, registering her second goal of the season.
After the opening goal, the match settled in as an even affair. Before halftime, NSU took seven shots, four on goal, to Flagler's six, half of which were on target. Each goalkeeper made three saves apiece.
The momentum in the second half tilted toward the Sharks' favor. The Sharks doubled their shot output before Flagler could strike twice, with only one threatening Sharks goalkeeper
Amanda Kopale (So., Cape Coral, Fla.). NSU nearly doubled up on its lead in the 73rd minute, but a NSU penalty shot went just wide.
In the 78th minute, the game was suspended due to inclement weather. After an hour-long break, the Sharks once again scored early.
Sarah Keville (Jr., Vero Beach, Fla.) scored her second goal of the season in the 79th minute. Keville took a through ball from
Sara Lundberg (So., Linköping, Sweden), dribbled into the 18-yard box and placed a great shot into the bottom right corner of the goal.
The Saints never bounced back after the delay and did not register a shot attempt after falling behind by multiple goals. Lelii nearly recorded a brace, with her shot being saved by Shields in the 89th minute.
Overall, the Sharks took 18 shots on Flagler, half of which were on target. Kopale made four saves in the shutout effort. For the second match in a row, NSU displayed its depth and used seven players off the bench.
The Sharks will take a 10-day break before returning to action at Lynn on Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.
