Baseball to Clash With Southern New Hampshire

Sharks look to continue winning ways against Penmen.

VIDEO | STATS

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
Nova Southeastern University's baseball team (6-0) will host a three-game series against the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen, beginning Friday night at 6 p.m and concluding with a game Saturday at 4 p.m. and the series finale Sunday at 12 p.m.

The Sharks currently own the all-time series record over the Penmen, having beaten SNHU three out of five times that the programs have met. This will be the first weekend series between the two teams, playing only mid-week games over the past six years.

NSU is coming off of a series sweep of the highly touted Delta State University Statesmen, a team that is a consistent NCAA South Region contender. The sweep marked NSU's second sweep of the season after taking care of the Stillman College Tigers on Opening Weekend.

The Sharks pitching staff has been dominant so far this season, boasting a 2.57 ERA through the first six games of the season. The weekend rotation, consisting of Roberto Baroniel (Sr., Miami, Fla.), Alex Mateo (Jr., Miami, Fla.) and Ryan Castellanos (Jr., Davie, Fla.) has carried the load of the innings, tossing a combined 37.0 innings. Castellanos leads the staff with two wins, one of which he pitched a complete-game shutout against the Statesmen.

The bats will look to get back to their Opening Weekend form, when the lineup smashed six home runs over a three-game span and produced 30 runs. Dylan Woods (So., New Symrna Beach, Fla.) has been the Sharks' most consistent hitter, leading the team in average (min. 10 AB's), RBI and hits.

Coming off of a 41-14 2014 season and a NCAA East Region Tournament birth, this weekend will mark the opening of SNHU's 2015 season. The Penmen feature two NCBWA Preseason All-American selections in sophomore closer Ben Criscuolo (First-Team) and sophomore shortstop Manny Cruz (Second-Team). SNHU was tabbed as the No. 11 overall team in the NCBWA Preseason National Poll and the favorite to win the NCAA East Region.

NSUSharks.com will feature live video and stats for all three games.
