WATCH LIVE | LIVE STATSFORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University's baseball team (3-0) will host a three-game series against the Delta State Statesmen, beginning Friday night at 6 p.m and concluding Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
The Sharks and Statesmen have some history, highlighted by the Statesmen sending the 2012 NSU team home after defeated the Sharks 8-5 in the NCAA South Region Tournament.
Coming off of a series sweep of the Stillman Tigers, NSU will be charging into this weekend's series with a full head of steam after blasting five home runs and nine doubles over the course of the opening weekend.
Alexander Fernandez (Sr., Davie, Fla.) and
Michael Hernandez (So., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) have led the offensive attack so far, both hitting two home runs and tallying five RBI.
The bats are complimented by a pitching staff that totaled 19 strikeouts against the Tigers, headed by
Alex Mateo's (Jr., Miami, Fla.) seven-strikeout performance. Head coach Greg Brown will send
Roberto Baroniel (Sr., Miami, Fla.) to the mound on Friday night, followed by Mateo in game two and
Ryan Castellanos (Jr., Davie, Fla.) in game three.
This weekend will be the beginning of Delta State's season. The Statesmen open 2015 as the fifth ranked team in the NCBWA South Region Preseason Poll, returning three All-Gulf South Conference members in Landon Thibodeaux (3B/OF), Will Robertson (OF) and Jonathon Moody (P).
