Box Score

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 6 Nova Southeastern University Sharks (17-4; 3-0) dropped game one of the three-game series against the visiting Adelphi University Panthers (1-0) on Friday night, giving the Panthers their first win of the season. Roberto Baroniel (Sr., Miami, Fla.) took the loss, his first of the season.

Adelphi struck first in the top of the first inning, leading the game off with four singles in a row to take an early 2-0. It seemed as if Baroniel was going to work out of the jam, getting a groundout and a strikeout with runners on second and third, but with two outs, the Adelphi first baseman smacked a double right center field, scoring two more runs to give the Panthers a 4-0 lead.

Adlephi added one more run in the fifth inning on a throwing error by Baroniel, scoring the runner from third base. The Panthers weren't done there, adding three more runs in the seventh inning on five hits, two for extra bases.

Base running was the Achilles heel of the Sharks offense tonight, as they were tagged out on the bases to end the first three innings. The Sharks threatened in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings, putting runners in scoring position, but failed to drive them in.

NSU's offense came alive in the ninth inning, scoring three runs to make the score 8-3. With the chance to make it a one-run game, Mario Urdaneta (Sr., Ocala, Fla.) flew out to right field, ending the Sharks' threat and the game.

The Sharks will be back in action Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. for game two of the three-game series against Adelphi. Be sure to tune in to the game, following the links on the schedule page.
