FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 4 Nova Southeastern University Sharks (20-4; 3-0) welcome the Florida Southern Mocs (11-10; 1-2) to town this weekend, beginning Friday night at 6 p.m. and concluding with a doubleheader on Saturday, set to begin at 1 p.m.
NSU comes into the series winning 11 of its last 12 games, outscoring opponents 131-45, while hitting .353 with 17 home runs as a team.
Justin Garcia (Jr., Hialeah, Fla.) and
Alexander Fernandez (Sr., Davie, Fla.) have launched five home runs of their own over the 12-game span, while
Mario Urdaneta (Sr., Ocala, Fla.) has driven in a team-high 21 runs over the stretch.
Roberto Baroniel (Sr., Miami, Fla.) will take the mound for the Sharks on Friday night, going up against what will likely be Florida Southern's ace, Ben Richardson. Baroniel currently holds a 4-1 record with a 3.32 ERA in 38 innings pitched. Richardson beat the No. 1 Tampa Spartans last Friday, tossing 7.2 innings for his second win of the season.
Alex Mateo (Jr., Miami, Fla.) and
Ryan Castellanos (Jr., Davie, Fla.) are scheduled to start games two and three, respectively, for the Sharks, likely going up against FSC's A.J. Smith and Craig Savage. Mateo has a perfect 5-0 record with 36 strikeouts, while walking eight. Castellanos leads the team in wins with six, with nearly identical numbers to Mateo's, striking out 37 batters, while walking eight.
