Box Score FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 3 Nova Southeastern University Sharks (24-4, 6-0 SSC) took care of the St. Thomas University Bobcats (23-9) on Tuesday night, winning by a score of 4-3.
Gilberto Torres (Fr., Miami, Fla.) earned the win in the affair, tossing 2.1 innings on his way to his third victory of the season.
The Sharks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, scoring one run on a RBI single by
Mario Urdaneta (Sr., Ocala, Fla.). The score remained 1-0 until STU hit a solo home run over the left field fence off of NSU's starting pitcher
Matt Hardy (So., Pembroke Pines, Fla.). Hardy allowed two more runs in the top of the fourth, giving up a two-run double to STU's seven-hole hitter.
The Sharks were held scoreless in the bottom of the fourth inning, giving way to Torres in the top of the fifth inning, who drew a lineout and a double play to end the inning.
Casey Gibson (R-Jr., Fort Myers, Fla.) led the bottom of the fifth inning with a double to right centerfield, later scoring on a double by
Roche Woodard (Sr., Tampa, Fla.).
Heading into the bottom of the sixth, the Sharks were down 3-2 with the middle of the order coming to the plate. After
Michael Hernandez (So., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) flew out to start the inning,
Andres Visbal (So., Miami, Fla.) was hit by a pitch, followed by
Yandy Viera (Sr., Hialeah, Fla.) reaching base on a fielders choice.
Kavan Thompson (Jr., Merritt Island, Fla.) stepped to the plate and doubled down the left field line, scoring Viera from first base. Gibson then singled for his third hit of the night, scoring Thompson to give the Sharks a 4-3 lead.
Relievers
Steven Fleming (Jr., Palm City, Fla.),
Josh Glick (Jr., Boca Raton, Fla.) and
Devin Raftery (R-Jr., Deltona, Fla.) took care of the rest, shutting down the Bobcats' offense to finish the win.
