FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University softball team (8-10, 0-3 SSC) will host the Eckerd Tritons (20-2, 3-0) in a weekend series at the AD Griffin Sports Complex. The Sharks will begin the series Friday at 6 p.m. and finish with a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Sharks enter the weekend after two losses to Palm Beach Atlantic on the road Wednesday, 8-0 and 5-1.
Lorena Spaulding (Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) led the Sharks at the plate, going 3-for-6 on the night with a trio of singles. Both
Katrina Ammons (Sr., Jacksonville, Fla.) and
Rebecca Thornton (So., Lodi, Calif.) each added a pair of hits over the two games combined.
Eckerd enters the game with loads of momentum, carrying a 15 game winning streak to Fort Lauderdale. Their 20-2 start is the best in school history and their recent three-game sweep of Florida Southern was the program's second Sunshine State Conference sweep ever.
The Tritons are led offensively by Sydney Dinelli, who is hitting .450 with six doubles and a home run. Erin Dixson has also been a run producer, with a .413 batting average and seven home runs. In the circle, Amber Hay is the reigning SSC Pitcher of the Week and holds a 1.07 ERA and an 11-2 record.
All-time, NSU holds a 35-8 record over the Tritons, with more wins against them than any other school outside of tri-county area. However, the Tritons have been a thorn in NSU's side over the last couple of seasons, winning the series in back-to-back series.
NSUSharks.com will feature live video and live stats for all three games, check the schedule page for multimedia links and any scheduling adjustments throughout the weekend.
