FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 6 Nova Southeastern University Sharks (16-3; 3-0) will play five games in the next seven days, beginning on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. against American International, followed by a three-game series starting Friday against Adelphi and concluding with a Monday night tilt against Bridgeport, set to begin at 6 p.m.
The Sharks are coming off of a three-game sweep of the No. 14 ranked Saint Leo Lions, a team that was ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division II in runs scored before the series. NSU hit six home runs during the series, four of which came off of the bat of
Justin Garcia (Jr., Hialeah, Fla.).
Mario Urdaneta (Sr., Ocala, Fla.) increased his hitting streak to 13 games, collecting a hit in each of the three games this past weekend.
As far as pitching goes, the Sharks weekend rotation did what they have done all year, winning all three games on the weekend.
Roberto Baroniel (Sr., Miami, Fla.) picked up the win on Friday night, while
Alex Mateo (Jr., Miami, Fla.) and
Ryan Castellanos (Jr., Davie, Fla.) earned wins in games two and three of the series, respectively. The Sharks are a perfect 15-0 on weekends this year, including five sweeps.
American International College comes into Tuesday night's matchup with a record of 1-3. The Yellow Jackets have had three games either snowed or rained out so far this season. Tuesday night's game will be the second of AIC's five-game Florida road trip, which features games against Palm Beach Atlantic, Nyack College and Bloomfield College.
Cameron Churchill (Fr., Palm Harbor, Fla.) will get the start for the Sharks,
Adelphi has fell victim to Mother Nature this year eleven times, but still holds a record of 0-0. The three-game weekend series against the Sharks will be the first three games that the Panthers play in 2015. NSU will send the normal weekend rotation to the mound, beginning with Baroniel on Friday night, Mateo on Saturday and Castellanos on Sunday.
The final game of the five-game stretch will be against Bridgeport, a team that began the year 0-5 with loses to Southern New Hampshire, Felician and Franklin Pierce in the Ripken Experience tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Similar to American International, the Purple Knights matchup with the Sharks will be on the backend of their nine-game Florida tour, competing against the likes of Bentley, Stonehill, Southern Connecticut State and Palm Beach Atlantic. Churchill is scheduled to start, making his second start in six days.
