WINTER PARK, Fla. – The top ranked Nova Southeastern University Sharks (34-9, 14-4 SSC) baseball team rebounded after a loss on Friday night, sweeping the Saturday doubleheader against Rollins College Tars (19-24, 4-14 SSC), winning the first game by a score of 7-5 and series finale 5-1.

Game One

The Sharks offense came ready to play on Saturday, scoring five runs in the first inning. Mario Urdaneta (Sr., Ocala, Fla.), Justin Garcia (Jr., Hialeah, Fla.) and Andres Visbal (So., Miami, Fla.) each had RBI singles in the inning, while Yandy Viera (Sr., Hialeah, Fla.) and Dylan Woods (So., New Symrna Beach, Fla.) plated two more runs to give NSU a commanding 5-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third inning, Rollins scored three runs (one earned) against the Sharks' starting pitcher Alex Mateo (Jr., Miami, Fla.), cutting the five run NSU lead to just two runs. NSU then extended its lead to three runs after Garcia launched a solo home run over the right field fence, his 16th of the year.

The Tars scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, hitting a two run home run off of Mateo to make the score 6-5. The Sharks added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning, scoring one run on a Roche Woodard (Sr., Tampa, Fla.) double down the right field line, plating Woods.

Devin Raftery (R-Jr., Deltona, Fla.) closed the door on the Tars, tossing two innings in relief for his sixth save of the year. Mateo earned the win, moving his record to 7-1 on the year.

Game Two

Ryan Castellanos (Jr., Davie, Fla.) did exactly what he had planned on doing, throwing a complete game to clinch the series for the Sharks in the series finale. Castellanos allowed just one run all game, cruising to his eighth win of the season. From the fifth inning to the first out in the ninth, Castellanos retired 16 hitters in a row, highlighted the dominant performance.

Castellanos' teammates gave him all the run support he needed, scoring five runs on eleven hits. Justin Garcia had a RBI single in the top of the third inning, driving in Woodard for the first run of the game. Woodard later had a RBI single in the top of the fourth inning, scoring Kavan Thompson (Jr., Merritt Island, Fla.). Urdaneta then grounded out to the shortstop to score Visbal and make the score 3-1. Fernandez put the final stamp on the offensive production, doubling down the left field line in the top of the sixth, driving in Urdaneta and Woods.

NSU will be back in action Tuesday night, hosting the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish in the Battle of the Fish: 2015 Finale. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. Be sure to tune in, following the links on the schedule page.
