Box Score SAINT PETERSBURG, Fla. – The top ranked Nova Southeastern University Sharks (34-10, 14-5 SSC) dropped their Friday night contest in Saint Petersburg, losing to the Eckerd College Tritons (20-25, 7-13 SSC) by a score of 7-4. Roberto Baroniel (Sr., Tampa, Fla.) took the loss, as his record fell to 6-4 on the year.
 
The Tritons got on the board first, driving in one run in the bottom of the second to take an early 1-0 lead. The Sharks responded immediately, as Mario Urdaneta (Sr., Ocala, Fla.) sent a towering two-run home run over the right field fence to take a 2-1 lead. Alexander Fernandez (Sr., Davie, Fla.) followed with a solo home run, marking the second time that Urdaneta and Fernandez have hit back-to-back home runs since March 16 against Bridgeport.
 
NSU's 3-1 lead didn't last for long, falling into a 7-3 deficit in the bottom of the third inning. Eckerd tied the game at 3-3 on a solo home run and a RBI single, then loaded the bases in time for a grand slam off of the scoreboard in right field. The Sharks scored one run in the eighth inning on a Fernandez double down the third-base line, but it was too little, too late, as NSU was unable to put a rally together to take down the Tritons.
 
NSU will be back in action tomorrow, playing a doubleheader against Eckerd, set to begin at noon. Alex Mateo will be on the mound for the Sharks to start the day. Tune in to each game following the links on the schedule page.
