No. 2 NSU Baseball Wins the Battle of the Fish: Part 3

The Sharks reach 30 wins in their 36th game, the quickest to 30 wins in program history.

Box Score

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University Sharks baseball team (30-6, 10-2 SSC) continue to break program records, reaching 30 wins in just 36 games after defeating the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish (17-15) 11-4 on Tuesday night, marking the least amount of games it has taken to reach the 30-win mark.

The Sharks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, as Roche Woodard (Sr., Tampa, Fla.) scored on a Justin Garcia (Jr., Hialeah, Fla.). Garcia has hit safely in 15 of his last 16 games. PBA answered right back, scoring two runs off of the NSU starting pitcher, Matt Hardy (So., Pembroke Pines, Fla.), taking a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the second inning.

The bottom the second inning was the turning point in the game, as the Sharks added six runs to take a 7-2 lead, and they never looked back. Dylan Woods (So., New Symrna Beach, Fla.) began the RBI parade, earning an RBI after wearing a pitch off of the hip with the bases loaded, scoring Antonio Rodriguez (Jr., Coral Gables, Fla.). Woodard then cleared the bases with a triple over the centerfielder's head, making the score 5-2. Mario Urdaneta (Jr., Ocala, Fla.) followed with a two-run home run over the left field wall, his fifth round-tripper of the year.

NSU tacked two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring two runs on a Woodard single to right field, taking a commanding 9-2 lead. Palm Beach Atlantic tallied one run in each of the top of the six and seventh innings, pulling with five runs. NSU pushed their lead back to seven runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, as Andres Visbal (So., Miami, Fla.) drew a RBI walk with the bases loaded and Julian Pino (So., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) followed with a RBI single up the middle.

Devin Raftery (R-Jr., Deltona, Fla.) closed the door in the ninth inning, striking out all three PBA hitters that he faced. Hardy earned his first win of the year and just the second win of his young career at NSU.

The Sharks will be back in action Friday night, hosting the No. 4 Florida Tech Panthers in what is hyped to be the biggest series in the Sunshine State Conference in 2015. Be sure to tune in to the game, following the links on the schedule page, as first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
