Sharks Drop Friday Night Tilt Against Barry

Nick McNeil and Kavan Thompson each collect three hits in the loss.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The top ranked Nova Southeastern University Sharks (36-11, 16-6 SSC) dropped Friday night's contest to the Barry University Buccaneers (21-26, 8-14 SSC), falling by a score of 6-5.
 
The Sharks jumped out to an early 1-0 in the bottom of the second after Kavan Thompson (Jr., Melbourne, Fla.) and Andres Visbal (So., Miami, Fla.) singled with one out. After Nick McNeil (Jr., Clearwater, Fla.) drew a walk to load the bases, Thompson scored from third on wild pitch. Barry responded with in the top of the fourth, scoring two runs on a groundout and a single to take a 2-1 lead. NSU threatened in the bottom of the fourth inning with runners on second and third, but failed to score, as Dylan Woods (So., New Symrna Beach, Fla.) lined out to centerfield.
 
In the top of the fifth inning, the Bucs ended the NSU's starting pitcher, Roberto Baroniel's (Sr., Miami, Fla.) day, scoring four runs, highlighted by a three-run home run off of the bat of JC Cardenas to take a 6-1 lead. The Sharks cut the Barry lead to four in the bottom of the sixth, scoring one run on a throwing error by the Barry third baseman, plating Thompson from third.
 
NSU scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull within two runs of the Barry lead. Michael Hernandez (So., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) launched a sacrifice fly to deep centerfield, scoring Mario Urdaneta (Sr., Ocala, Fla.) from third. Kavan Thompson then singled home Justin Garcia (Jr., Hialeah, Fla.) from second, making the score 6-4. NSU brought the score within one in the bottom of the eighth, scoring one run on a RBI double from Woods, scoring McNeil.
 
Unfortunately, that was it for the Sharks, as they struck out three times in the bottom of the ninth to end the game.
