ERAU Streaming Portal (Paid) FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University women's soccer team, coming off back-to-back shutout wins, looks for three in a row Wednesday night at 7 when they head north to Daytona Beach to take on Sunshine State Conference provisional member Embry-Riddle.
The Sharks (5-2-0, 1-1-0 SSC) posted spotless victories against No. 20 Tampa (1-0) and Johnson & Wales (3-0) on Saturday and Sunday at home to move three games above .500 on the year. With three goals in three games,
Sierra Lelii (R-Sr., Seminole, Fla.) earned her second SSC Offensive Player of the Week award.
With NCAA stats updated through Monday, Lelii is first in the league in goals (nine), points (19), goals per game (1.29), points per game (2.71) and game-winning goals (three). In all of DII, those marks slot her second, third, 10th, 12th and fourth, respectively.
Samantha Gestido (Sr., Hialeah, Fla.) has five assists, or 0.71 per game, which are second and 16th nationally, and tie her for first and second in the SSC.
As a team currently, the Sharks remain the league leaders in scoring offense (also 23rd in DII), total goals (20, 17th in the country), total points (52, 17th as well), and points per game (28th).
The NSU defense was key this past weekend, first keeping the No. 20 Spartans off the board on Saturday, despite being tripled in shots attempted (18-6).
Amanda Kopale (R-Jr., Cape Coral, Fla.) went the distance in goal, corralling 11 saves. On Sunday, the team did not allow Johnson & Wales to attempt a single shot, giving them their second win in as many days.
Embry-Riddle, while not yet a full member of the SSC, is taking on all conference opponents and made quite a statement last time out, defeating the nation's top-ranked team, No. 1 Barry, 2-0. After a 19-2 mark last season and an NAIA semifinals appearance, they have begun 4-2 overall in their first year in DII, with their other matchup against a future league foe coming against Rollins, a 2-1 loss.
The Eagles are led individually by forward Andrea Froshaug, the 2014 NAIA National Player of the Year. She paces the team in goals (three), assists (two) and total points (eight), while taking 27 of the team's 67 total shots. In goal, Second Team All-American Olivia Lynch has allowed just four goals in six matches, while posting four shutouts.
The teams have met 12 times, with the series split right down the middle at 6-6. The last matchup was on Sept. 12, 2010, a 1-0 ERAU victory in Fort Lauderdale. The year prior, the last time the teams played in Daytona Beach, the Sharks were a 2-0 winner in their 2009 season opener.
