FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Off to the best start in program history the 9-1 Nova Southeastern University volleyball team will head back out on the road to face Florida Tech on Friday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. and then No. 9 Florida Southern on Saturday at 4 p.m.
The Sharks' weekend will start in Melbourne, Fla. on Friday when NSU will face the Panthers who are currently 6-2 and 1-0 in the Sunshine State Conference. Florida Tech is fresh off a conference win against Rollins. There is a three-game difference all-time series between the two with Florida Tech holding a 24-21 series advantage.
With a short turnaround, the Sharks will face their toughest opponent of the year as they face nationally ranked and undefeated Florida Southern (10-0, 1-0 SSC) at 4 p.m. the following day. The Moccasins were recently ranked ninth in the most recent AVCA top-25 national poll.
Just three weeks into the year, the Sharks coming off an impressive 3-0 weekend and a five-match win streak. NSU picked up their wins against conference rivals Barry, and Lynn. They closed out the weekend with an impressive 3-1 win over regional contender Flagler to continue the best start in program history at 9-1 in 2015.
Offensively, the Sharks continue to improve behind the play of junior setter
Katie Pyles (Denver, Colo.). She is averaging just over nine assists per set and has guided the team to a .232 hitting percentage that continues to increase. Although difficult to single out any one individual player senior
Dana Holger (Lino Lakes, Minn.) continues to lead the team in kills averaging just under three kills per set.
Rookie
Denvyr Tyler-Palmer (Fr., Jacksonville, Fla.) posted a breakout performance in the Sharks' last outing posting her first career double-double with 21 kills and 11 digs. She also had a career high seven service aces against Lynn.
On the defensive side,
Kaelyn Brock (So., La Quinta, Calif.) and
Megan Burns (Fr., Sylvania, Ohio) have covered the court with precision. Brock leads the team with a 3.47 digs per set average, while Burns heads into the weekend with a 2.05 average.
