NSU hosts Fighting Knights at 7, following pregame tailgate in Shark Circle

LIVE STREAMING | LIVE STATS

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern University women's soccer teams seeks their fourth win in a row as they host their neighbors to the north, Sunshine State Conference rival Lynn, on Wednesday night at the NSU Soccer Complex.

Game time is at 7 p.m., but beforehand, there will be a pregame tailgate with all fans invited to attend. From 6-7, the athletics department, in conjunction with Finatics (the official Spirit Organization of NSU), will have festivities in the Shark Circle, with food provided by Jimmy John's. In addition to Finatics' involvement, a number of other groups have agreed to take part in hosting duties, including the Rotract Club, the Black Student Union, Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI), the Residential Student Association and Phi Sigma Sigma.

The Sharks (6-2-0, 1-1-0 SSC) enter into Wednesday night having blanked each of their last three opponents by an aggregate score of 8-0. The three teams – Tampa, Johnson & Wales and Embry-Riddle – were unable to make good on a combined 28 shots against the NSU defense, 16 of which were on goal. Amanda Kopale (R-Jr., Cape Coral, Fla.) bookended the three matches in net, coming up with 16 total saves.

In the latest victory, 2-0 on the road Wednesday at Embry-Riddle, freshman Emily Stearns (Orlando, Fla.) her first two collegiate goals, capping off arguably the best stretch of her young career. Four days prior, in the 1-0 win over then-No. 20 Tampa, her cross contributed to Sierra Lelii's (R-Sr., Seminole, Fla.) game-winner. Lelii would return the favor in Daytona Beach, assisting Stearns on her first-ever score against ERAU.

The team-leading nine goals by Lelii continues to also pace all SSC scorers, and places her seventh nationally. She is fifth in DII in game-winning goals, 10th in total points and 12th in goals per game. Four Sharks have two goals apiece – Stearns, Cydney Niedermeyer (Jr., Fort Myers, Fla.), Julia Nytorp (Sr., Örnsköldsvik, Sweden) and Tori Vives (Sr., Cooper City, Fla.) – helping to contribute to a healthy 22-10 goal advantage for the team.

Samantha Gestido (Sr., Hialeah, Fla.) has five of the team's 13 assists, still good enough for a ninth-place showing nationally in total number while slotting her 20th per game. Both marks tie for first overall in the league. Lelii, Stearns and Vives have been credited with two apiece in the Sharks' first eight matches.

Lynn (2-5-1, 1-1-0 SSC) has won their last two after a winless stretch of six games to start the season. A week ago, they beat then-No. 12 Barry, 5-4 in OT, led by freshman Emily Weisberg's hat trick, the first three goals of her career. She added an assist, and earned the most recent SSC Offensive Player of the Week.

On the season, those three tallies ties her for second on the team with Caroline Duerr. Donish Cole leads the way with six, three of which came this past Monday in a 5-0 shutout of Webber International. Cole also has two assists (halving the team lead with Weisberg) to pace the Fighting Knights with 14 total points. The net thus far has been shared by redshirt junior Caitlin Shaver (five games/five starts) and freshman Alexa Downie (five games/three starts). Downie earned the last two victories for the team, which in addition to the decision over Barry, includes the shutout win on Monday.

Lynn edges out the Sharks in the all-time series, 12-10-2, but last season, the Sharks took two victories, one on each team's home field. In Fort Lauderdale on Oct. 22, it was a 5-0 NSU win (including two goals by Lelii and one from Niedermeyer), and six days later, Nytorp and Vives did all the scoring in a 2-0 road victory in Boca Raton.

Game time, again, is 7 p.m. at the NSU Soccer Complex. Follow along with the live broadcast of the game HERE, live stats HERE, and in-game updates all throughout on Twitter @NSUSharks.
