FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – As the 2016 season approaches its conclusion, Nova Southeastern will look to send its senior class out with one final victory when the Sharks face off against Florida National on Senior Night Friday at the NSU Soccer Complex.
Prior to kickoff, the group of six student-athletes including
Santiago Camacho,
Jose Giron,
Viktor Jonsson,
Faycal Oulahbib,
Caue Rodrigues and
Michael Rosario will be honored for their contributions and dedication to the Nova Southeastern program. While each of them will be saddened as their Shark careers come to a close, one can imagine Oulahbib in particular will be begging for any possibility of an extended schedule after putting together his best game as a Shark just one day ago.
The native of Paris, France entered Wednesday night 's contest versus Saint Leo with just two career goals, including one this season, yet equaled that mark in just the first 24 minutes of Nova Southeastern's 2-1 triumph over the Lions. Oulahbib jump-started the offense in the 12
th minute against the 2015 Sunshine State Conference Champions after smashing a wide-open look into the back of the net to give the Sharks the 1-0 advantage. Saint Leo evened up the score less than five minutes later, but the Sharks' midfielder continued his strong performance in the middle of the opening half and pumped in the eventual game-winner on a text book feed from teammate
Filippo Mancini.
"What a great game from Faycal," said head coach
Matt Watts following the win. "We get a couple of goals from him tonight. That's a major positive considering he's a senior playing in his last couple of games."
The victory marked Nova Southeastern's second conference 'W' of the season, surpassing last year's mark. While there's still plenty of room for improvement, the pair of wins coupled with the unfortunate six one-goal defeats in league play, ought to give Shark fans a feeling that the program is headed in the right direction.
Florida National doesn't expect to make Senior Night easy on the Sharks, however. The Conquistadors, members of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), enter riding a 13-game win streak and have outscored their opponents by a combined 97-8 margin in 2016.
Prior to the start of the season, Florida National suffered a narrow 2-1 loss in an exhibition match against SSC member Lynn.
