FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern volleyball team will take to the road once more in the 2016 season, this Saturday as they travel to Melbourne, Fla. to face off against the Florida Tech Panthers. The match is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m.
In their last time out,
Megan Burns broke the school record for digs in a single season but NSU (11-16, 3-9 SSC) was unable to stop the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish from grabbing their 24th consecutive win, as the Sharks fell in straight sets to the host team on Tuesday evening.
The Sailfish were also too much for the Panthers (6-19, 0-12 SSC) this past week, as PBA handed FIT a 3-0 loss on the road.
Despite being ranked in the lowest parts of all Sunshine State statistical categories, the FIT defense is ranked No. 4 in the conference, picking up 16.23 digs per set. Becca Bower steers the defensive ship, ranking fifth in the conference with 4.77 digs per set. Offensively, Olivia Hersey and Kelly Germain are FIT's biggest threats, recording 2.67 and 2.47 kills per set, respectively.
Although the Sharks are currently on an eight-game slide, NSU continues to put up big numbers statistically. Burns, has made history in the past three matches, breaking two school records and surpassing the 1,000 career-dig mark. She currently leads the conference in digs per set (5.30) and overall digs (620). Along with her high conference rankings, Burns is also ranked nationally in both categories, 41
st in digs per set and 5
th in overall digs. Offensively,
Denvyr Tyler-Palmer continues to be a strong force for the Sharks, tallying 3.81 kills per set on average, and registering double-doubles in four out of the last five matches.
