NSU Swim Teams Back in Action Saturday

Sharks return with big match-up against Tampa this weekend.

FORT LAUDERDALE – After a long mid-season layoff, both the Nova Southeastern University men's and women's swimming teams will be back action this weekend to face Sunshine State Conference rival Tampa on their home turf at the UT Aquatic Center on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Since Oct. 21, nearly a whole month, the No. 2 NSU men's team has been prepping for the showdown with the Spartans this weekend in Tampa, Fla. Tampa, who was preseason ranked No. 6 in the CSCAA top 25 national poll will enter this weekend's meet having fallen to No. 12 in the latest poll. Despite falling six spots in the latest top 25 poll, the Spartans enter this weekend's competition undefeated in dual meets with wins over Florida Southern, Keiser and Rollins. The NSU men are also undefeated in dual meet action with a pair of wins over Indian River earlier this year.

The NSU women's team has also had a ton of prep time between meets having competed and won a dual against cross county rival Lynn back on Oct. 28. The fourth-ranked Sharks' women's team has had their share of success this season picking up two wins over Indian River and a victory against the Fighting Knights. With a 3-1 dual meet record going into the weekend, the Sharks suffered their only dual loss of the season against No. 27 Florida International on Oct. 21. Receiving votes in the last coaches' poll, the Spartans are 3-0 in dual meet action this season with wins over Florida Southern, Keiser and Rollins earlier this year. Their last win was a dominating 166-84 victory over SSC foe Rollins.

Last time out for the Sharks, the men picked up a solid win over Indian River by a final score of 167-127 while the women defeated Lynn 172-88. Emma Wahlstrom, who just recently won the 200-meter free at the Swedish Nationals to earn a spot on the national team, has been one of the leaders on the women's side having already NCAA provisionally qualified in four separate events. On the men's side, Thiago Sickert has continued to demonstrate his dominance, while Franco Lupoli has emerged as one of the top newcomers with NCAA provisional qualifying times in the men's the 500 and 1,650 freestyle events.
