Box Score 2 FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University softball dropped games to Armstrong State, 10-0, and Washburn University, 2-1, to open play at Palm Beach Atlantic's Sailfish Showdown on Saturday.
In the first game of the day against Armstrong (7-4), the Sharks (1-5) put up two hits, which came from
Megan Granitto (Fr., Wellington, Fla.) and
Jessie Brown (So., Hollywood, Fla.). The Pirates scored the majority of their runs in the third inning, putting up five, with another two in the second and three in the fifth.
Starting pitcher
Erica Winter (Fr., Blaine, Minn.) picked up her third loss of the season (0-3), giving up 10 hits and four walks but striking out two. Armstrong's Sierra Peebles (2-0) would get the win in five innings.
The Sharks' dropped their second matchup of the day to Washburn University despite a late rally attempt. Brown was again one of three with a hit, going 2-for-3 with a single in the top of the fifth and a RBI single in the seventh.
Rachel Minier also went 2-for-3 (Jr., Orlando, Fla.) with a bunt single in the fifth and a hit in the seventh.
Haley Gonzales (So., Boca Raton, Fla.) was the third Shark with a hit, which also came in the seventh as the team tried to rally scoring one run in the process.
Dajia Jones (Jr., Jacksonville, Fla.) (1-2) had a solid effort in the circle giving up six hits with three strikeouts. Ichabods' pitcher Ashley Wills (1-2) captured the win, giving up five hits and striking out six.
The Sharks will conclude the Sailfish Showdown on Sunday, Feb. 14 when they take on Georgia Southwestern at 1 p.m. For live stat and video stream links, please click
