Box Score FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – On Sunday, the Nova Southeastern University softball team fell 7-3 to Georgia Southwestern (7-5) in their final game of Palm Beach Atlantic's Sailfish Showdown.
The Sharks had both
Dajia Jones (Jr., Jacksonville, Fla.) and
Erica Winter (Fr., Blaine, Minn.) in the circle, but Jones (1-3) would pick up the loss giving up two hits and five runs with three strikeouts. Winter (1-2) would take over with two outs in the top of the fourth and finish the game out allowing five hits and two more runs. Canes' pitcher Brittany Childs (1-1) earned the win.
NSU was the first on the board, putting up one run in the bottom of the third. The half-inning began with
Sabrina Fischer (Fr., Loxahatchee, Fla.) earning a walk. She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Jessie Brown (So., Hollywood, Fla.) and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Ashley Roe (Jr., Flower Mound, Texas) would pick up a RBI to bring in Fischer.
Georgia Southwestern would answer with a vengeance in the top of the fourth putting up five runs on three hits and two Shark errors. In the bottom of the sixth, the Sharks'
Dakota Villella (Jr., Hollywood, Fla.) scored on a wild pitch and
Rachel Minier (Jr., Orlando, Fla.) scored on a Canes' error to bring the team within two. The Canes widened the gap in the top of the seventh by scoring two more runs to bring the final to 7-3.
NSU will host a doubleheader against Kentucky State on Wednesday, Feb. 17 for the team's home opener at the AD Griffin Sports Complex. The first game will begin at 5 p.m. Links to live stats and the live video streams for both games can be found
