HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Nova Southeastern University baseball team will hit the road to take on NCAA South Region contender Alabama-Huntsville this weekend, playing a doubleheader on Friday and Saturday. Both doubleheaders will begin a 12:00 p.m. CT.
The Sharks are in the hunt for their first win of the season and will hand the ball to staff ace
Alex Mateo to get the job done in game one of the series.
Matt Hardy and
Jonny Ortiz will take the mound in games two and three, respectively, and head coach
Greg Brown will announce the series finale starter following the end of game three.
NSU will look to build on the positives from opening weekend, as
Andrew Liberty,
Dylan Woods,
Andres Visbal and
Kevin Suarez are swinging hot bats heading into the second weekend of the season.
Brandon Gomez, Danny Zardon,
Michael Hernandez and
Antonio Rodriguez are geared up for a breakout weekend, ready to provide the brunt of the offensive force in the middle of the order.
As for Alabama-Huntsville, the Chargers finished their 2015 campaign 36-11-1 overall and 21-9-1 in the Gulf South Conference, finishing in second place. UAH is predicted to finish fourth in the GSC in 2016. The Chargers return GSC Freshman of the Year A.J. Walden, as well as Zach Dugas and Trey Mathis to their lineup, who all hit over .310 in 2015. NSU's offense will focus on taking advantage of an inexperienced UAH pitching staff, as no pitcher on the Chargers' staff made over five starts or threw 45 innings in 2015.
