Box Score MATCH RESULTS
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 7 Nova Southeastern University tennis team hosted No. 23 Academy of Art on Monday, March 14. The Sharks defeated the Urban Knights in an intense match that was decided in the No. 4 singles third set.
NSU women's tennis, now 6-1 overall, trailed Academy of Art after the end of the doubles matches. The Urban Knights outplayed the Sharks in two of the three doubles.
Petra Jurova (Sr., Bratislava, Slovakia) and
Sabrina Kierberg (Sr., Munich, Germany) won the No. 1 doubles match 8-3 to give the Sharks their only point in doubles.
No. 23 Academy of Art continued to give No. 7 NSU trouble as they kept the intensity throughout all singles matches. Kierberg had the quickest singles match of the day, defeating Academy of Art No. 2 single by a mark of 6-1, 6-1.
Klaudia Boczova (Jr., Bratislava, Slovakia) gave the Sharks a temporary lead with a No. 1 singles victory of 6-0, 6-0. The Sharks dropped the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches, which put everything back to the Urban Knights favor. Jurova got the No. 3 singles match for the Sharks to make things even again.
The match was decided in the No. 4 singles match between
Nastassia Rubel (Jr., Minsk, Belarus) and the nationally ranked No. 47 Annika Schneider from Academy of Art. Rubel fell 4-6 in the first set and had the challenging task of coming back for the Sharks. With the help of her teammates and support from the coaching staff, she was able to build up her momentum and win the next two sets 6-1 and 6-2. The Sharks finally defeated the Urban Knights with a team score of 5-4 increasing their winning streak to six in a row.
The Sharks will serve as host to No. 16 Flagler on Friday, March 19 at 10 a.m. at the NSU Tennis Complex.
