Softball Goes on the Road to Play Rollins

The conference series begins on Friday, April 1 at 7 p.m.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University softball will go on the road this week to play Sunshine State Conference opponent Rollins in a three-game series beginning on Friday, April 1.

The Sharks (11-25, 1-14 SSC) will travel to Winter Park, Florida and play the first game against the Tars (24-6-1, 7-2 SSC) at 7 p.m. on Friday. Saturday, April 2 will feature a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. at MLK Park.

NSU is coming off three hard-fought losses last weekend to SSC opponent Florida Tech. In the last game of the series, Megan Granitto (Fr., Wellington, Fla.) held the Panthers scoreless for six innings but got the 3-1 loss after a seventh inning rally. Granitto (5-7) has been the Sharks' top performer in the circle with an earned run average of 2.55, and she also has a team-leading 25 RBI. She shares pitching duties with Dajia Jones (Jr., Jacksonville, Fla.) and Erica Winter (Fr., Blaine, Minn.) who have 28 and 31 strikeouts, respectively, on the year.

Jones has continued to lead the team offensively with a current batting average of .393. She has 43 hits to date, which is second in the conference. She is followed by Haley Gonzales (So., Boca Raton, Fla.) who is hitting .290 and leads the SSC in doubles with 12. The team as a whole is hitting .263 while opponents are averaging .292 against the Sharks.

Rollins most recently swept both Merrimack College and Albany State University in two out-of-conference doubleheaders. Centerfielder Chelsea Reed was named SSC Player of the Week for her performance in those contests combining for 7-of-11 at the plate, hitting two home runs and collecting six RBI and four walks. She is joined by Jule Kranz in leading the Tars' offense as Kranz is batting .407 on the season.

In the circle, Rollins is represented by senior Niki Fogle (14-5) and freshman Grace Street (8-0). Fogle is second in the conference in strikeouts with 112 and first in saves with three. Street boasts a 1.76 ERA, which is the fifth best in the SSC. Opponents are averaging a 4.73 ERA and a .207 average at the plate against the Tars.
