Softball to Take on Lynn This Weekend

The Sharks will head to Boca Raton to face the Fighting Knights in a three-game conference series

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University softball team (11-34, 1-20 SSC) will make the short trip north to Boca Raton, Florida to face Lynn University (13-29-1, 2-15-1 SSC) in a three-game conference series beginning on Friday, April 22 at 3 p.m.
 
After the opening game on Friday, the Sharks will play a doubleheader against the Fighting Knights on Saturday, April 23 starting at 1 p.m.
 
NSU most recently dropped a close three-game series to Sunshine State Conference (SSC) opponent Florida Southern. Megan Granitto (Fr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) moved to 5-13 on the season after pitching two complete games. Dajia Jones (Jr., Jacksonville, Fla.) is now 4-12 on the year allowing seven hits and striking out two in the second game of the series. The pitching staff has a combined earned run average of 4.85 while opponents are putting up an ERA of 2.81.
 
Jones continues to lead the team offensively after picking up a RBI double and a two-out two-RBI home run last weekend. Jones is batting .348 followed by Katey Blummer (Jr., Naples, Fla) at .283. Granitto, Ashley Roe (Jr., Flower Mound Texas) and Dakota Villella (Jr., Hollywood, Fla.) picked up three hits apiece against the Mocs. The team is averaging .249 at the plate while opponents are hitting .306.
 
Lynn suffered a similar fate last weekend losing three games to Florida Tech by scores of 2-0, 4-3 and 6-1. Francais Olexa (5-15)       allowed two earned runs on four hits with four walks and a strikeout. Olexa has the team-low ERA at 2.84. She is followed by Katelyn Key (6-9) at 3.16 and Rachel Lightner (2-4) at 3.50. The pitching staff has a combined earned run average of 3.05 while opponents are throwing 2.38 against them.
 
Junior Sara Vazquez has a team-leading batting average of .282 and went 2-for-3 at the plate in the extra innings 4-3 loss. Amanda Casillas saw her fifth multi-hit game of the season in that same contest and has a batting average of .277 for the season. As a whole, the team is hitting .238 while opponents are averaging .301 at the plate.
