FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University softball team (12-36, 2-22 SSC) will close out the 2016 season with a three-game series at Embry-Riddle (32-13).

Play will open with a doubleheader on Friday, April 29 at 4 p.m. followed by the final game on Saturday, April 30 at 12 p.m. in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Last weekend, the Sharks saw their first shutout victory of the year with a 6-0 win over Lynn University. Both Katey Blummer (Jr., Naples, Fla.) and Haley Gonzales (So., Boca Raton, Fla.) saw their first home runs of the season in that game. Blummer's was especially impressive as she hit a one-out grand slam to score the first four runs of the game. She also saw a hit in game three and is averaging .281 at the plate.

Megan Granitto (Fr., Wellington, Fla.) split two games in the circle to move to 6-13 on the year. She held Embry-Riddle to five hits and earned two strikeouts in her win. She currently boasts the team-low earned run average of 3.79. Dajia Jones moved to 4-13 after taking a loss in game two. Jones leads the team offensively with a .355 batting average and 27 RBI. In the Sunshine State Conference, Jones is seventh in slugging percentage at .549 and eighth in hits with 51.

In Embry-Riddle's latest series, they took two games from Eckerd. The Eagles won the first game behind Kassidy Simons' (16-4) 10 strikeouts. Simons is a double threat as she leads the team in the circle with a 1.45 ERA and at the plate with a batting average of .414. The pitching staff has a combined earned run average of 2.20 while opponents are averaging 5.17 against them.

The Eagles have five players batting over .300 with a combined team average of .307. In a close second behind Simons is fellow pitcher Raquelli Bianco (9-3) batting .393 with 53 hits and 41 RBI on the year. Simons and Bianco have combined for 180 strikeouts this season.
