Softball to Host Showdown with Sailfish

The Sharks will welcome Palm Beach Atlantic beginning on Friday, April 8

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University softball (11-28, 1-17 SSC) will host a showdown with the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish (25-15) this weekend with the first of three games being held on Friday, April 8.

The Sharks will welcome PBA to the A.D. Griffin Sports Complex for a three-game series beginning at 6 p.m. Friday and concluding with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 9 at 1 p.m.

NSU most recently dropped a three-game Sunshine State Conference (SSC) series at Rollins. Forced to shuffle the schedule due to weather, the Sharks and Tars played a doubleheader on April 1 which saw NSU fall 7-4 and 7-0 to Rollins. Saturday's game began prior to 10 a.m. and was stopped twice due to weather, finally concluding later that evening with the Tars coming out on top 11-1.

Megan Granitto (Fr., Wellington, Fla.) and Dajia Jones (Jr., Jacksonville, Fla.) continue to see the majority of the time in the circle. Granitto (5-9) picked up two losses against Rollins while Jones (4-10) saw one. Granitto saw offensive success after going 2-for-3 in the second game of the series. She was joined by Ashley Roe (Jr., Flower Mound, Texas) who went 2-for-5 with a RBI in the first two contests.

NSU as a whole is hitting .255 while opponents are averaging .299 in the batter's box against them. Jones remains the Sharks' leader at the plate batting .374 to date and is fifth in the conference in hits with 43. The pitching staff has a combined earned run average of 4.76 while opponents are putting up 3.15 against the Sharks.

PBA, a provisional member of the conference, has won four of their seven three-game sets with SSC opponents, most recently falling two games to one to Rollins. In the team's 4-0 win, senior Amber Johnson pitched a complete game shutout allowing just three hits and striking out two. Johnson (10-1) has the best record in the circle for the Sailfish and is followed by Rachel Hill (11-7) who has a team-low ERA of 1.91.

Seven Sailfish are batting over .300 led by outfielder Victoria Gonzalez who is hitting .408 with 49 hits, six home runs and 36 RBI. The team averages .304 at the plate while holding opponents to .235. The combined team ERA is 2.34 with opponents pitching a 2.71 earned run average against PBA.
